Water Scarcity in Singapore: An Overview
Water Scarcity in Singapore: An Overview Abstract Singapore is a no more farmland country so that mean cant save more water. First I will write about Singapore fresh water information, second I will write about the government solution for the water scarcity issue, after that I will discuss the which solution is good for reduce fresh water scarcity and write some of my opinion for solve this issue. In the last I will conclusion the answer and give some suggest. When you want to know the detail information, in the last page I will give some source web site. Introduction Singapore is a famous poor water country and it most water come from another country provid. This report I will talk about Singapore how to reduce fresh water scarcity. Well we know the fresh water is very important to biome because the body have high per cent work from the water and it can help you eating, poop and transport energy. From the research the body have seventy per cent make for the water and when miss fifteen per cent it will meet died danger, so for the research the water is very important for our life. In global have fresh water scarcity problem, some scientist research some solution to reduce this trouble for example in seawater join some special energy can make it become fresh water. We know technology improve our life, most country have water recycle system. I think in the future each house have own small water recycle system. Methodology Before the researchà ¯Ã ¼Ã
âI find the Singapore water come from the nearly country and rain. Although precipition is high than another country but it no more land so it is poor water country. From the internet I find the Singapore how to collect the rain and the water used for. I think the chemistry system is very important for reduce fresh water scarcity because in Singapore is very careful for water. In my opinion this information is very important because it provide me more detail and it is good background befor the article. Findings Singapore is an island and urban city state and not hence so it have high per cent water on Malaysia supply. For the terrain reason, the Singapore cant save more water although it rain high than another country. In early because technology grow up quick and government not very care about industry, so most industry have most pollution and local person use groundwater so in after this country meet drink problem. In beginning the government to put forward buy the water for Malaysia and recycle pollution water. Then it carry out most plan desalt seawater to drink water, develop Newater plan, this plan objective is bring waste water that better than public water. I think they best plan is build impoundments and reservoirs, it can college most rain water and reduce water loss so in Singapore have most this building and most fresh water is come from here. The government dont want fresh water go to sea so they build barrage separate the sea and reservoir, when reservoir cant save more rain w ater it can help it ejectment the more water and it can save the low lying area. In my opinion the government can calculated each family use how much water, when it used more can suggest when they not hear can require pay more money and they also can reward use water less family, it can make everybody save the water and government donate little money to reward save water very well company. Discussion From the finding, we can see the Singapore have big water problem and they also take more measure to reduce fresh water scarcit. So I think my hypothesis is true, my hypothesi is in the future, each house have small water recycle sickle. from the technology grow up quick and the global fresh water scarcity issue to become more serious, we must have save water mentality and now most family have water purifier, it erasure people want to drink health and clean fresh water. In the future, the water recycle sickle have good change, it become not expensive and big, the government will subsidy it. All in all the Singapore do most action is want to solve fresh water scarcity issue. I think solve this issue is not only government work because we cant leave the water, and the water useful for our, so we must have save water mentalit. Well actually the government most action is want to reminds people have save water mind. We know in global have most country have fresh water scarcity issue and t he population become more and more, human most careful about fresh water issue, so I think most country should study Singapore method. Conclusion All in all the government proposed is want to reduce fresh water scarcity and they also want to reminds people to save water. Causes and Effects of Sea Pollution
Causes and Effects of Sea Pollution Nowadays, the sea pollution becomes a serious problem for the whole world. When technology in this world grows to be more advance, the sea pollution will become more serious. ââ¬Å"Pollution is the introduction of pollutants into the environment to such a point that its effects become harmful to human health, other living organisms, or the environment.â⬠(Pollution 2007) Sea pollution can cause many different problems. The problem inside that is damage the health and well of humans, plants and animals. Water from the sea is the primary source used by the human, animals and plants. So the sea is polluted will affect the organism in the sea and human was eating the organism in the sea. This will make the origination of serious disease to human and animals. When this problem was happen, this is damage the ecosystem in whole world. In some areas of the world, seas have become so polluted that ecosystems are in danger. Pure, the sea is unpolluted can balance the ecosystem of this wor ld. In this modern, many human have understood the problem of sea and other water pollution. Some of these human are taking steps to clean up the polluted sea. (TED Analysis Cases 2007) This will help the human to have clean sea and the sea life have clean habitat. But this must use many ways and high cost to clear the sea and the water, so most of the action cannot successfully be taking. Before the human clean up the polluted sea, they must understand all of the causes and effects of sea pollution. The sea pollution is caused by oil spill, ship pollution and sewage therefore the impact toward the sea are marine pollution, hypoxia and water quality. The first cause that leads to sea pollution is oil spill. ââ¬Å"An oil spill is the unintentional release of a liquid petroleum hydrocarbon into the environment as a result of human activity.â⬠(Oil spill 2007) The factory of petroleum often pollutes water bodies 1 in the form of oil. This is the mistake of human that they cannot control the oil spill from the factory. There was one estimate is that oil transported for every million ton is spilled one ton of oil. The oil mostly comes from tankers which wash out their holds at the same time as out at sea to save time in port. Enforcement of laws relating to the discarding of oil is difficult rests with the captain of each tanker to follow the law.à There was also have many case of accident was happen cause the sea pollution. For the case, ââ¬Å"in January of 1993, an oil tanker ran aground off the Shetland Islands, Scotland in the United Kingdom. Oil from this tanker spilled into the sea water surrounding the Shetland Islands .â⬠(TED Analysis Cases 2007) Other than that, the ship pollution was cause the sea pollution. Ship can pollute the sea in many ways. When the ship is shipping in the sea, it will discard some waste material like the oil. Most of the ship spill out the oil into sea. In this modern world, the quantity of the ship increase to use in the trade. So the increasing ship in the sea ports, pollution from the ship becomes more serious. Some of the ship will carry the chemical was spill out the chemical into sea. This is because the human cannot take the action to control the chemical spill out. The chemical was spill out is very poison. Even though it was only some chemical spill into the sea, but the chemical is pollute the sea seriously. The second cause that leads to sea pollution is chemical pollution. Usually this type of pollution is making by the unconscionable human. Some of the factory waste out released into the sea. Everyday there are many case of this type pollution. Enforcement of law relating to the discarding of chemical into sea is very difficult rest with the owner of the factory to follow the law. Owner of the factory did not use another way to discarding the chemical. This is because use another ways must use the high cost to solve that 2 problem. For example, if the factory wants to hide the chemical on the land, they must buy a big land to solve this problem. This is because this chemical will affect the health of human, plants and animals. The waste out by factory is very poisonous especially from the industrial of car, plastic and others. This chemical was waste are include the nitrogen, toxic and phosphorous compounds into the bodies of water. These chemicals do serious damage to marine life. Fo r the cases, ââ¬Å"as recently as 1995, all of the factories in Hong Kong dumped their detergents, toxic chemicals, and waste water into the territorys port. This has caused serious water pollution in the Hong Kong port.â⬠(TED Analysis Cases 2007) Other than that, waste released from the farm is the one of the cause sea pollution. The farm will discard the water after into the sea. For example, the chicken will discard the waste after use to wash the farm into sea. The water have use is very dirty and include some chemical, oil and toxin. Most of the owner of the farm did not discard the waste with true way. This is because the owner of the farm does not have more money to solve this problem. Another ways to handle the waste must use the high cost, the farm is only a small business. The profit of they get from the farm are only a few, that is not enough to handle the waste. Another cause is the sewage. There are many country was built the sewage pipeline because the human thought that the sea would reduce the sewage. (Sea Pollution 2007) If there are too much sewage discards into the sea, this will pollute the sea. In this modern world, there are many countries in development. Development of country has many of sewage. This is because develop the country will make built the bridge, building and others. The human will discard the sewage into the sea, so the sea pollution was become more serious in most of the country in entire world. For example, the Danes and 3 Swedes are built a bridge to their nations which can cross to make possible communication between the nations. (TED Analysis Cases 2007) When they built the bridge, they will flow the untreated sewage into the bodies of the sea. This is cause the sea pollution seriously. Some of the countries are no enough land; they will fill up the sea to build the house and the factory. For example, there was a case in Malaysia, which is Melaka State was fill up the sea to built the house, office and others. When they fill up the sea, the material inside that was pollute the sea. Other sewage is untreated trash which dumped by human into bodies of the sea. Trash is usually dumped by the households, restaurant and individuals. The trash will go into the sea by the sewage pipeline. Everyday there are many household and individual dumped the trash into bodies of the sea because the human have many things after use want to dump. Some of the trash that human dumped cannot dissolve by the water especially the trash make from the plastic such as fishing line, floats, plastic six pack holders and more. Those causes of sea pollution have many effect, one of them is marine pollution. The effects of the oil spill on marine life are the rare animal become extinct. The oil spill will make the oxygen in the sea decrease and make the sea become very dirty. After the oil spill pollutes the sea, the animals will move their habitat to other place. When they move to other place, they will easily to catch by the human. For the rare animals, it will become extinct. For example, the sea turtle move the habitat; it will go to another beach. This will make they easily catch by human. Some of the animals move the habitat to other place but they will go to wrong way will make them to death. For example, the whale move the habitat but it go to sea is shallow, this will make it death. This is because the size of whale is big so it cannot go to the shallow. The whale is one of the rare 4 animals which we must protect them. So we cannot pollute the sea. Other than that, the steps taking by human to clea n up the sea was polluted will affect the habitat of the sea life. Oil spill can cause the human reluctant to buy marine product whether those product are stained. (Effect of marine oil spill 2007) This is because after the sea pollution, most of the human will thought the entire marine product was stained. The economic of the country will be decrease. Another effect of oil spill is damage the ecosystem in the sea. After oil spill pollute the sea, the oxygen in the sea will be decrease. So some of animals and plants in the sea was become extinct, this will affect the other animals cannot find their food to eat. The ecosystem is very important. So the human must taking steps to stop pollute the bodies of the sea. The second effect of the sea pollution is hypoxia. Hypoxia means the lack of oxygen from the air go in the bodies of the sea. Hypoxia will happen when the chemical pollution. The sea was polluting by chemical, oxygen difficult to go in the sea bodies. So suffocation of animals will happen. Most of the animals will move the habitat but have some of the animals cannot move, so they will be death. ââ¬Å"In 1991, one million menhaden fish in North Carolinas Neuse River were killed in a Pfiesteria outbreak.â⬠(Water pollution effects 2006) The sea floras decrease extremely because the sea flora in the sea cannot get the oxygen. Most of the sea floras cannot move the habitat, so that they only can wait for death. After all the sea life move and death, then that sea pollution will become more serious. This is because some of the sea life was death and their corpse is nobody to clear. After that, the human will infect by disease because the corpse of the sea life have many bacteria. If this situation is happen in a country, the economic of the country will decrease and the human at there will death. The economic will decrease is 5 because the sea food tainted by the sea pollution, the government must stop all the sea food business. Beside that, the tourist will cancel to go that country because of sea pollution and disease. Most of country will cancel business with that country because of the government afraid their citizen will infected by the disease. The third effect of the sea pollution is water quality. Every year, there are many countries close the beach. This is because water quality in many countries was become more serious after the sea pollution. The water quality is causes by the sewage, waste released from factory and others. Most of the human stay near at the beach, they will use sea water and play at the beach. This will make the human infected by the hepatitis, stomach aches, vomiting and more. For example, some of the state in Africa, there was many people infected by this disease because they do not know the dangerous of the polluted water. There was many cases was happen in most of the countries that their water quality was very poor. This was make the human stay at there was infected the disease. For the example case, ââ¬Å"In 1993, high cryptosporidium levels in Milwaukees drinking water supply sickened more than 400,000 residents. Every year, seven million Americans are sickened by contaminated water.â⬠(W ater pollution effects 2006)Poor of the water quality also usually make the skin cancer of the surfer. The surfer did not know the dangerous of the sea was polluted. After they go to surf at the sea, then they will easily to get the skin cancer. The government in most country was close the beach and the stop all the sea activities. This is because the government has known the dangerous of the sea pollution and worry about the image of the country. Image of the country is very important because the first image of the tourist will look the environment of that country. If the tourists have the bad image of the country will make the economic of that country will decrease. 6 As conclusion, the causes of sea pollution are oil spill, chemical pollution and sewage. Those will make many effects, which are marine pollution, hypoxia and water quality. Beside that, the economic of country, health of human and more also are effect by the sea pollution. This all effect was become more serious in most the country. So we must taking steps to solve the problem. There are many solutions to solve the problem of the sea pollution but there use the high cost and many steps. So the citizens must co-operate with the government to solve this entire problem. The government gives the education to the citizen start from the primary school. The education must include the important of the sea, the dangerous of the sea pollution and more. This will make the citizens learn more and know the dangerous of the sea pollution from young. After that, they will co-operate with the government to taking steps and processes to clean up the sea. Clean up the sea is a ways to solve this prob lem but the human must concentrate about the marine life. This is because the processes of clean up the sea will affect the habitat of the marine or make them death. Other than that, the government uses the law to take action to the owner of the factory for no obey the law. The government can increase the penalty to the owner of the factory make the sea pollution to make them afraid and they will obey the law. Another solution that able to reduce the sea pollution is that, the government should organize sea activities. As a result, people will realize that the sea is a wonderful and mystery element and they will try to do least harmful action to the sea. Therefore, sea pollution will be able to reduce. How Volunteer Work Has Changed My Life Essay -- Community Service, Ser
"He who wishes to secure the good of others, has already secured his own." - Confucius à à à à à The Christmas in October Program is an annual event I participated in that helps someone who is less fortunate by fixing up their home. It is a two-day event where exterior and interior work is done on a home. The program requires a company to sponsor the project, and volunteers to do the actual work. It is called Christmas in October because it takes place in October, but feels like Christmas because of its memorable effect. Participating in the Christmas in October Program was the most meaningful work I've done because of its lasting effect on me. à à à à à Christmas in October was very meaningful to me because it changed my feelings about volunteering. America In The Popular Imagination :: essays research papers
Twenty-one years ago, a spectacular film was made by an incredible director of the highly acclaimed film, "Badlands". The movie, "Days of Heaven" directed by Terrence Malick is a movie that shows the confusion of one woman, trying to figure out whom she loves. The movie stars Richard Gere as Bill and Sam Shepard as a rich, handsome, Texan farmer, the two men Brooke Adams as Abby falls in love with. Linda Manz plays Linda, Bill's sister and the narrator, in the story.Terrence Malick was born in Waco, Texas, which probably influenced him to make his first two films, "Badlands" and "Days of Heaven". Both share a theme of pariahs in the mid American wilderness, who are on the run from the law.The late seventies and early eighties were about getting ahead, however you could, no matter whom you had to step on, never worrying that you could get caught. This is reflected when Bill wants Abby to pretend that she is in love with the farmer. When Abby marries the farmer, Bill and Linda move in with them. Linda says "The rich got it all figured out". She means that when she was poor, she was considered replaceable and unimportant. When working in the fields, she says "If you don't work, they'll ship you right out of there; they don't need you; they can always find someone else." As a rich person, and a part of the upper class, she has fun with her life, and doesn't worry about what is going on."Days of Heaven" is about getting into a higher class. It starts when Bill punches his boss and needs to get a new job. He, his younger sister, Linda, and his lover, Abby, become sharecroppers on a farm in Texas, owned by a handsome young man. Bill and Abby pretend to be brother and sister, because they don't want people to know. Linda says "They told everyone they were brother and sister... You know how people are... you tell them something, they start talking". Bill is accused by a fellow sharecropper of being to close with his "sister" and they got into a fight because Bill was very defensive about that. Linda makes a friend with an older woman on the farm and they play in the fields. Bill overhears a doctor diagnose the handsome young farmer with a disease and one year to live.

Restraint, Weight Suppression, and Self-Report Reliability: How Much D :: essays research papers
In the analytical report entitled Restraint, Weight Suppression, and Self-Report Reliability: How Much Do You Really Weigh? By P.J. Morgan and D.B. Jeffrey, they look at the eating habits of people and categorize them as three types of people. Those categories are Dieting and Overeating group, Current Dieting, and Weight Suppression. The Dieting/Overeating group consists of "individuals who undergo repetitive cycles of dieting and overeating,"(Morgan, 1999). They have the appearance of a diet, but overeat every once in a while to make up for it and to fulfill food desires. The Current Dieting group "encompasses those who consider themselves to be currently on a diet and who consume less food than what is required than what is required for maintenance of their current weight," (Morgan, 1999). They are ones that eat small portions of food and starve themselves to keep their weight down or to lose weight. This can also be categorized as anorexia nervosa, a clin ical eating disorder that afflicts primarily women. The last category is the Weight Suppressors, who "successfully lost weight and have kept it off for some time," (Morgan, 1999). These people have lost the weight by some means and have kept the weight off by adopting better eating and exercise habits. The groups were split into two groups, the control group and the variable group. The experiment was to see what the effects would be on each type of person in the variable group when enticed with a milkshake "Preload" which tastes better than a regular milkshake and is higher in fat and calories. The control group would not receive the "Preload" shake so the experimenters could monitor normal reactions of persons from each group. The result was the "Preload" group ate more than the control group regardless of their category. The authors concluded that the dieting and appetite suppression is a mental game of the person and is only as strong as their own conscience and taste. However, that is only one way to look at the information. The structural functionalist perspective focuses on the manifest and latent reasons for dieting. The manifest reason a person to diet is to look better physically. Physical acceptability is very important to people, both male and female alike. It is a part of out status as a human and gives value to our appearance as well. The latent function is to make ourselves healthier inside and out, by improving our immune system and eliminating cholesterol from our blood vessel, which could cause blockage.

Mobile Phone Use: Assess The Risks Compared With The Benefits Of Mobile Phone Use Particularly In Relation To Young People
Mobile phones, the 21st century way of communicating, are they a great thing that works wonders and revolutionize people's lives? Or are the risks to high a price to pay? I am going to investigate the risks of using mobile phones. Around 1/4 (6 million) of mobile phone users are under the age of 18 and the number of young users is expected to rise with the total numbers of users is meant to rise to 1.2 billion by 2005 with the fastest growing market as the 9-10 year olds. Consequently the questions ââ¬â are children more at risk than others and what are the risks need to be asked and answered. Firstly health. The area of the brain and its reaction to radiation is very vague and scientists are not 100% sure about anything. There have been no specific experiments carried out by scientists and there is a big gap in our scientific knowledge in this area, but it has been shown that mobile phone use does affect brain activity and experts consider children to more vulnerable there are many reasons for this one of these is that children are not fully developed and their skulls are thinner and so it is easier for the radiation waves to penetrate the skull whereas a fully grown person will have a thicker skull and so is less at risk, although it has been proven through research that use of mobile phones speeds up an individuals reactions. Research has been done on 420 000 phone users to find out whether they have a link with cancer, no link was found. However, the incidence of brain cancer has increased 25% since 1973, according to the National Cancer Institute. Each year, 185,000 Americans will be diagnosed with a primary or metastatic brain tumour, according to the National Brain Tumour Foundation. Also, in another Swedish study a correlation was found between brain tumours and mobile phone use, regardless of which side of the head it is used. So all in all, though the current balance of evidence does not show health problems caused by mobile phones, it does show that mobile phone use does affect brain activity and this is not a problem the mobile phone manufacturers can ignore. Another aspect is base stations (masts.) Should we be worrying about these as well? It is said that the closer the phone is to a mast the safer they are. This is because they automatically reduce the output by about 1000th of the full power. Therefore, the more people who use the mobile phones; the more masts the companies will put up; the safer it will be to use the mobile phones. The heating affect from base stations is 5000x smaller than from the mobile phone itself. On the other hand, however, the environmental impact of masts might affect people's sense of well-being and there is a perceived risk from them to health, so there is particular concern when placed near schools. The expense is another issue there is definitely two sides to this argument. One side of the argument is that the mobile is an unnecessary expense for parents to cope with, and that the youngsters take advantage of their parents. On the other hand, if there is a problem with this, then the parents can either say ââ¬Ëlook use it sparingly', or refuse to pay the bills and buy them a pay and go phone where it is the child's problem if they have no money on their phones and they can pay for their own to-up vouchers. One advantage is that it frees up the landline home for the parents, as a parent ââ¬â Anne Kent explains: ââ¬Å"at first I thought it was unnecessary but soon changed my mind when I saw it freed up our phone at home,â⬠and has the further advantage of reducing landline bills as a consequence. Clearly this problem can be easily solved it just needs a bit of common sense. This leads us onto the next area, children's safety (in relation to crime) and responsible use . One of the main advantages to young people having mobiles is that it gives their parents peace of mind so there are less worried parents especially those in remote areas, As Mrs Watson of Northumberland explains: ââ¬Å"we felt it was important for Sian to have a mobile phone because living in the country we are very isolated.â⬠Both parent and child are able to feel more secure only being a telephone call away from each other. On the other hand how secure is a child with the rising crime statistics. Crime is another big issue that should be considered carefully. Mobile phone robberies make up 36% of London's crime and 41% in Birmingham also. It has been said by the metropolitan police that mugging for mobile phones has increased by 53% in the last year with 11-16 years olds most at risk. 12% of young teenagers have had a phone stolen at least once, and most of this theft is carried out by black males in gangs. It is said by many that they only have phones to show off. So are you prepared to take the risk? The final issue is whether education is adversely affected. On the one hand many schools say this is not a problem in most cases because there are strict ââ¬Ëno phone' rules. On the other hand, some say that mobiles have become the ââ¬Ëteachers pest' with students using mobiles to text during lesson and so on. Another side to this is the language used in text messages for example: ââ¬Å"cul8râ⬠(see you later) could this destroy the English language? My verdict is that we cannot simply ban phones. It would be like banning the use of cars just because there is a risk of injury or damage. It's not right to take today's generation's way of communicating away from them. Another reason is that if they were banned or even just made illegal for children to have them, there would hundreds of thousands of jobs lost because the mobile phone industry is growing daily. We don't take the dummy from the baby or the car from the driver, so why the phone from the teenager. However, in the light of the evidence it would be equally foolish to use them wilfully. So sensible precautions should ensure safe use.
Union Carbide Disaster: Bhopal, India
Union Carbide Disaster: Bhopal, India On December 3, 1984 just three miles from the City of Bhopal.. An American owned Union Carbide Pesticide Plant leaked Toxic gas in to the air killing over Hundreds of people right away. Mr. Y P Gokhale, managing director of Union Carbide in India said, ââ¬Å"That a Methyl isocyanate gas (MIC) had escaped when a valve in the plantââ¬â¢s underground storage tank broke under pressure. The leak was caused by a series of mechanical and human errors in the pesticide producing plant. For a full hour the plantââ¬â¢s personnel and safety equipment failed to detect the massive leak, and when the alarm was sound most of the harm was already done. What was worse was that local health officials had not been educated on the toxicity of the chemicals used at the Union Carbide plant therefore there were no emergency procedures in place to protect the people of Bhopal. Panic broke out in the city of Bhopal and the areas surrounding more then tens of thousan ds of people attempted to escape. More then 20,000 people required hospital symptoms including swollen eyes, frothing at the mouth and breathing difficulties. There we thousands of dead animals just covering the streets of Bhopal. The Indian government sued Union Carbide in a civil case and settled in 1989 for 470 million dollars. The Union Carbide which shut down its Bhopal plant after the disaster has yet to clean up the site completely. More then thousands of people died instantly and over 2,000 people died during the aftermath. In 1999 a voluntary group in Bhopal which believed not enough had been done to help the victims, filed a lawsuite in the United States claiming that Union Carbide violated international law and human rights. In November of 2000 Warren Anderson was charged of ââ¬Å"Culpable homicideâ⬠for cost cutting at the plant which is alleged to have compromised safety Standards. In 2004 the Indian Supreme Court approved a compensation plan drawn up to help more t he 570,000 Victims of the disaster. The welfare commission paid well over 350 million dollars. The Bhopal disaster in 1984 was one of the worst industrial accidents in history. However after 3 decades later toxic waste is still being stored on the site under poor conditions.Today the people in Bhopal still live with the consequences of the gas cloud and are still fighting for compensation. Almost 28 years after the accident, a group of cabinet ministers in New Delhi decided to sign over the disposal of the toxic waste from Bhopal to the German technicians. The old factory in Bhopal with its rusty tanks and dilapidated clusters of buildings, is like a ghost factory. People in the area of Bhopal are still dying from the toxic gas leak more then 300,000 have died from it over the years and more are expected to die as well. This was one of the deadliest Toxic gas leaks in the world I canââ¬â¢t believe that this happen. And what hurts the most is that it took them over 28 years to fina lly take care of the matter and I doubt its all just quiet yet as they are hitting the 29th year since the gas leak. Germany was nice to move in and help them out by taking this stuff and getting rid of it for them. I on the other hand think something should have been done about it many of years ago. On the 20th anniversary of the Mascara a man claim to have said that the Company Dow was going to pick up the waste and get rid of it.When the news people called to ask the man question there was no one by that name that had worked for them and that the guy was an imposter that they had no intention to pick up the waste.
